So what's the story on the new coach at CMU?

So let's see, Central Michigan beat Michigan State. Michigan State beat U of M. That makes Central Michigan number one.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

As we start the 2009 campaign, all I can think about is that awful double-play against FIU in the Motor City Bowl last year. Butch Jones was so distracted in his tirade about a perceived bad call by the officials that he forgot to send in a new play. The Chippewas ran the same play again which FIU fully expected and killed the drive. That is just irresponsible on the coach's part. A professional coach should keep in mind what is important. This isn't professional wrestling. The coach's temper tantrums don't change the way the game is officiated. Look at Tony Dungy. There's no reason to pitch a fit on the sideline. It just sends a message to the team that this loss isn't their fault. It gives them an excuse to lose. It's one of the worst things a coach can do.

Brian Kelly would have had this team winning the MAC and bidding for the BCS. Butch Jones has a long way to go just to be as good a coach as Kelly. Jones is in over his head at the MAC level of competition.

The Chips would be better off without Jones. They need someone who understands his job as a head coach. The head coach is not a ball-buster assistant coach. The head coach is not ball-buster-in-chief. He's supposed to provide direction and leadership so the assistant coach's tirades follow the same plan, head in the same direction, create a winning team.

Until Jones learns that he needs to spend more time as an assistant coach. Fire him now before he screws up another important game for my beloved alma mater.
